How do you respond to socially acceptable insults about your immutable male characteristics?
Generally speaking, society correctly recognises that insulting someone for something they can't control makes you a bad person. To make fun of someone's sex, sexuality, race, genetic impairment, place of birth, etc, would have you dismissed as as a sexist, homophobic, racist or unintelligent bully that peaked in elementary school and failed to correctly integrate into broader society.
Unfortunately, this same attitude does not protect everyone, especially men, because they are assumed to be part of some oppressor class, making discrimination against them seem socially justifiable and sometimes even deserved.
"Stop talking, you're literally..."
- A man
- White
- Short
- Bald
- Less Endowed
...are all socially acceptable.
What is the correct way to respond when someone resorts to one of these insults while you are having a disagreement with them if calling it out as obvious discrimination doesn't work as it normally should?
