Need Advice - CPA Studying and Scheduling Dilemma

Hi everyone,

I’m a brand new Master of Accounting student and I would like some advice on when to start studying for my exam and when to schedule it. For some added context, FAR will be the first one I try to knock out.

My advisor recommended that I don’t schedule exam until after Spring semester is over, which would be around late April or early May. That’s about 15-16 weeks away. However, everyone around me says to spend no more than 8 weeks studying for FAR.

Here’s my dilemma. I want to get started on studying right away, but I know if I do, I’ll forget a lot of the information before my tentative exam date in May (haven’t scheduled yet). Additionally, my Becker progress is tied to a course for credit. We have to complete at least 4/5 of the content in Becker’s FAR course to receive credit. We have to submit a progress report at midterm and another at finals to make sure we’re staying on track.

A couple of options I was thinking about:

  1. Postpone studying until mid-February or early March and take the exam in May in order to get finals over with before I fake FAR.

  2. Start studying now and take the exam in March, even though my advisor recommended I should wait.

Does anyone have advice or have any of you experienced something similar? How did you approach the situation?

I would appreciate any advice or feedback. Thanks in advance!
