break in period oil change

Just checking in, how many of you guys did/planning to do first 1000-1500kms oil change and filter on your new cars? I've just done it at 2000kms in my new hybrid and feeling bit guilty as the it looks like very clean oil without any odd smells went straight to recycling. Most of the stuffs I read (except the manual, obviously) and watch, stated it is recommended for the long run with all the initial debris removed... What do you guys think?
