Is this confession scene from House M.D. realistic?
In this clip, in clear emotional distress, Dr. Chase attends confession and confesses to a priest that he had committed murder. Chase begs to be forgiven, but doesn't seem to clearly repent for his sin, justifying it and refusing to turn himself into the police. The priest REFUSES to grant him absolution. It's my understanding that priests do have that discretion given they sense someone is genuinely unremorseful/unrepentant, but is that demonstrated in Chase clearly enough that this situation would warrant refusal of absolution irl?
