It was intentional, and it was Vance specifically

Throughout the meeting it was clear that there was a negative attitude from Trump and his crew towards Zelensky. However I do think its a mistake to think the blowup was orchestrated by Trump's team from the start. First of all this isn't the kind of thing Trump does, he is a buffoon and a narcissist, he likes to bully but he also likes to portray himself in the best light possible. He doesn't plan things in advance to pursue some specific political goal. If he didn't want to help Ukraine at all he just wouldn't have met in the first place, instead he wanted to have a deal that would allow him to claim victory, as he has done with the tariff fiascos.

Vance on the other hand, isn't a buffoon. He knows what he is doing, he knows that MAGA is a crazy movement, but he is choosing to use it to advance his own political standing. As such everything Vance has done in public so far has clearly been done with control. He doesn't do the aimless meandering of Trump (the weave). If you watch the meeting again, you would see that the blowup began when Vance responded to Zelensky's question. When he responds you can clearly see that he doesn't lose control, that he intentionally shifts the conversation to a hostile tone.

Going forward I think we should be wary of people like Vance, even more so than Trump. This authoritarian populist movement isn't going anywhere in the near future, but at the moment we are in some ways lucky that it is being led by a buffoon like Trump. Someone intelligent and intentional like Vance could dismantle our democracy more quickly if they ever became president.

Also, its clear from everything Vance has said, such as his speech in Munich that he definitely wants the US to abandon Ukraine and be friendlier towards Russia. This is important to note since Vance may very well be the next GOP presidential nominee.
