A Musician's Take on Modern Earbuds: Technics Z-80, Liberty 4 NC, and Bose QC Ultra
Hey r/earbuds! Thought I'd share my journey with these earbuds, as someone who lives and breathes music.
I recently upgraded from my trusty Liberty 4 NCs (got them for €65 when they just came out) to the Technics Z-80s (snagged them on Amazon for €200). Was it worth the jump? Well, it's complicated.
First impressions? I was genuinely gutted. The bass wasn't as punchy as my Liberties, and I love me some bass. But then something magical happened - I put on "Reality" by Lost Frequencies, and blimey, I heard things I never knew existed in that track! Little guitar knocks, layered claps - it was like hearing it for the first time.
Now, about that noise cancelling... Look, they're better than the Liberties, but let's be honest - Bose absolutely smashes both of them. If you're a frequent traveller or work in a chatty office, save yourself the hassle and go for the Bose. The difference is night and day, especially with voices.
So, who should buy what?
If you're watching your pennies: Liberty 4 NC. They're brilliant value, and I won't hear otherwise.
If you're always on the move: Bose QC Ultra. Yes, they're dear, but your ears will thank you.
If you're a proper music nerd who sits down just to listen: Technics Z-80. They're brilliant for classical especially.
Here's the thing though - don't believe the hype about some "mind-blowing experience" with pricier buds. The Liberties are stonking good value, and unless you're properly sitting down to appreciate your music, you might not even notice the difference with the premium ones.
Cheers for reading! Happy to answer any questions.
