Tips for treating and preventing “banana halux”?

On my right foot, it seems I have this banana halux (https://www.thegaitguys.com/thedailyblog/2018/2/16/too-much-extensor-tone-the-banana-toe)

Toe resting position slight extension. Periodic mild pain under first metatarsal. Lots and lots of crepitus in first metatarsal also. I assume it's related?

Seeking recommendations for tips and techniques to prevent and treat this condition (particularly for a distance runner)
