Just put my two weeks notice today and I feel AMAZING

I joined a little over a month ago. I knew this company sucked but I really needed some extra cash and I thought that since I like video games I would enjoy this job.

GameStop is by far the most pathetic employer I’ve ever worked for. I’m in Florida, and at my store we don’t even have water to drink. One day I left my bottle and I had to stay thirsty during the entirety of my shift. They also expect you to stand during your entire shift????? One day my back and feet hurt from standing up for so long so I just sat on the floor (because it was dead and no one was coming) and the manager told me I needed to stand up at all times even if there was no one at the store.

Last week the district manager had a meeting with us to tell us that our sales left much to desire and that we needed to roll up our sleeves. He insisted that we MUST be aggressive when customers enter the store and that we should consider it a failure if the customer left the store empty handed or if they didn’t get at least a warranty.

Oh, and don’t even get me started on the goddamn Pro Card. He said that we needed to sell it like our lives depended on it. And I was like, my dude, how the fuck can you expect me to go out there and bother and annoy people offering them a shit ton of products if I’m not going to get anything from that? I don’t even make a commission, maybe if the salary was worth it I’d think about it, but if you pay me a miserable $12 per hour and you only give me between 10-15 hours a week, how could you possibly expect me to be committed and care about this job? And to top it off, he said that we have to be careful not to do one extra minute of overtime. I’ve worked at two other retail stores before that have a far smaller scale. Their opening and closing processes are far smoother, easier, shorter, and more effective. They actually pay commissions and only hire people full time with benefits, and allowed up to two hours of overtime per week.

GameStop just plain sucks. No matter how much they want to disguise it, it’s a failing company and it’s failing HARD, and FAST. And they deserve it for being such awful employers. I’m not even being “promoted to guest”, because I highly doubt I’ll even continue to shop there after I leave.

After that meeting I was like “yeah no, I’m outta here”. I was already miserable working there, with the stupid cringey promos they have on the goddamn TV on repeat (special shoutout to the Final Fantasy VII Remake one, I HATE it) and making next to no money at all, and now the district leader is acting all delusional thinking that paying us less than minimum wage we’re going to put the effort to save this sinking ship? Fuck no! I’m out. If by any chance someone stumbles upon this post while thinking of applying there, DON’T. Literally any other place is better than this shithole. FUCK GameStop.
