Should we start a new subreddit, that prioritizes evidence-based treatment approaches and science?
Even before u/marianavas7's post, compared to other illness subreddits I'm on - this one is full of bad, uninformed information. It seems like it's mostly people speculating they have Hashimoto's based on the symptoms, aren't diagnosed, and think there's correlation to their symptoms improving because they went gluten-free/keto/carnivore/meditated. Then they come here and post an essay on how they cured themselves, and you can too, just buy XYZ book, supplement, protocol from this website and on and on.
At best, it's people struggling due to being ignored by doctors, and at worst it's predatory "wellness" peddlers grifting.
It's just so unhelpful, especially when there's proven treatments for Hashimoto's that have existed for decades. You wouldn't know that based on this subreddit. And yet, other illness subreddits have actually taught me a lot, the top posts are the latest scientific studies and unhelpful/uninformed information is removed.
My energy and strength comes and goes though (moderate-severe ME/CFS). I don't think I can reliably say I'm available to moderate a subreddit consistently.
I'm wondering if a handful of us are available to do so, and if there's an interest in something like this.
ETA: Seems like there is a need for this. I'm making a list of folks who expressed interest in helping moderate and will get in touch over the next week.
