I want to contribute

Hi , I am a Computer Engineering Student . I run LOS 16 on my Lenovo p2 and would love to contribute to the project. The thing is that , I just don't know how to get into the open source world . Will anyone be kind enough to guide me into that ? Any help is appreciated . Thanks.
