What made Chin essentially the godfather of New York. What was different about him?

What is it about Chin that made all these stone cold killers and powerhouses/bosses bend the knee to him? Everyone that talks about him basically says his word was law. He was the real power behind all of New York. Problem is, I don’t know anything in his biography that distinguishes him from other power houses. They’ve all got shooters. They’ve all had guys whacked. They all follow the same rules. What made Chin stand out to the point where other families and major players not wanna cross him.

Maybe I’m not too educated on this stuff because admittedly, this is a recent rabbit role I’ve fallen into. But in my mind it makes sense if people felt that way about Gaspipe/Amuso, they would kill you in 2 seconds. Same with Nicky scarfo or persico. But Chin wasn’t stacking up bodies for sport like these guys, so what made him essentially the godfather of New York
