Having trouble with patchy makeup but as soon as I wipe off my first attempt with a wipe and try again, it goes on smooth

Hiii - I’ve only done this a couple of times. I’ve been putting on makeup, getting frustrated with the patchiness all over my skin and taking it all off and trying again. I try again and it goes on super smooth. What am I doing wrong during the first attempt?

Prep routine:

CeraVe hydrating cleanser, niacinamide 10 + zinc 1 serum, Hydrating serum, CeraVe moisturizer, Fenty primer, Bobby brown foundation
