Does anyone else not enjoy “princess treatment”?

I (21f) unfortunately actually had to break up with my boyfriend over this. He was insistent on being a gentleman and treating me like a “princess” even though I told him I was kinda uncomfortable with the dynamic. I like to split the bill on dates, he insisted on paying for everything. He even snatched the check from my hand one time. He wouldn’t let me lift a finger for anything. He would open the car door for me to get out, if we were going shopping he would carry everything (and then pay for it all, despite my protests). It even got to a point where if I said that I was getting up to get water or something he would have me sit back down and he would go fetch it for me.

I’m aware at this point I sound like an asshole for not appreciating this stuff but I felt like he didn’t see me as a whole person, he saw me as something from a different species. We had multiple talks about how I wanted to at least start splitting the check and he would agree, then continue to pay for everything. Same with the car door stuff. I mean that’s a bit much at a certain point and it made me look a certain way (entitled and lazy). As sweet as he was, he did not listen to me and I did not feel like I was ever seen as his equal. He would tell me to let him worry about everything so I could just live in my “girl world”. It frustrated me to no end.
