Is the Church led by the Holy Spirit?
I'm an inquirer, so please correct me if my premise is mistaken. But my vague understanding is that the Church is supposedly led/guided by the Holy Spirit: That is how the authors of the Scripture were inspired, and how the Church was guided to choose which books were chosen to be a part of the Bible. And early Church councils were guided by the Holy Spirit. Is that the Orthodox view, or am I getting this from somewhere else??
My follow-up question, if the Church is indeed lead by the Holy Spirit, why would it allow the Church to become as split as it is today? If there was some holy guidance, you would think the great schism, and later reformation should not have occured?
