Scared to renew passport?

Hey guys,

This maybe a silly question, my passport expires summer 2026. I want to renew mine but the process requires me to send back my old passport which is fine, but I’m worried with all the govt lay offs that I could potentially end up with no passport at all. Am I being paranoid? Or should I hold off? Young female widow living in red state of it makes a difference
