Are there any sites where you can find HD movies still in theatres?

When I was a kid, my grandpa was a chief of police. A cop who worked security at my local theatre would give him movies they were showing burned onto dvds. As a kid I thought it was awesome and hypocritical (I wasn't gonna complain tho lol).

My point and question being, is that not done anymore? I live in a small town, the theater only had two screens, so I assumed it was easy for him to do. Are there no other small towns in America or other countries where this is still done? Every time I try to find a currently shown movie, the quality is bad and always recorded secondhand. Is there something preventing workers from doing it anymore?
