Life after we die

Hello, I had a random thought last night and been thinking about it ever since. So we are born into this world with our own POV. It's like a first player game for us. Think of it as a screen. We live our whole life through our eyes. But what happens after we die? Are we surrounded by blackness for eternity? Does our POV move onto a newborn without our previous memories?
