Sensible things to contact your MP & MSP about at this time
Everyone's annoyed, and for good reason, at how the latest trump farce is unfolding.
Now have a read at this and have a good think: https://www.theregister.com/2025/02/26/europe_has_second_thoughts_about/
A great deal of Scotland, and the UK's IT infrastructure uses US software or hardware. At every level - governmental, commercial, even on an individual basis.
My employer uses a personnel management system (Oracle Fusion), that is from a US supplier. My own smartphone is an Android device. My games machine runs on Windows, and I use Steam for a lot of the games I have.
Facebook, Whatsapp, Twitter/x, googlemail, Outlook, reddit, so much stuff runs on US-sourced software.
We all know facebook et.al. were collecting data to try and sell crap. But now they should be considered to have a more dangerous agenda.
Given how tech firms are cosying up to the current potus, a whole bunch of things must be considered somewhat of a national security risk.
So what people should do, is contact their MP and/or MSP, and ask what, if any, plan there is to move away from using US-based software.
Because right now, with how much control US tech firms have over so much of the IT infrastructure, taking any stronger diplomatic or political action to condemn trump is extremely risky.
Consider the scenario: FM condemns trump, trump being a petty fuckboy seeks revenge, an obsequious broligarch seeking favour offers a plan to "get back at them", and the NHS has their software licences revoked.
We can't allow that to happen.
