A bit of a rant first impressions.
Need to preface this with the fact that I DO like this game. I'm brand new, less than a days playtime, and have only done safer seas (in fear of the scary sweats or "veterans") so far I'm impressed. My game lags a bit when I'm out on the open waters, but I'm assuming that's to be expected when it renders just so much. I recently started the gold Coast quests, the first talltale whatever the name is, and I usually play solo. (My gf gets off work late at night) And so far I've killed a megalodon and destroyed a few Skelly ships, did treasure hunts, and am currently doing the legendary storyteller portion of the talltale.
I am what could be considered a, "experienced gamer" having done competitive, survival, PVP etc for most of my life as a hobby. This is where I assume I might ruffle some feathers as a newcomer, what the ACTUAL fuck is up with enemy encounters on the sea?
I tried to fight off a freshly spawned skeleton ship, it was rather large, and was also trying to repair my hull (solo) bailing out water, and trying to get the enemy sank/scuttled. It was going okay, until a megalodon spawned on the opposite side of me. So I had to contend with both threats, and as an inexperienced SOT player, I obviously got sank. All my loot floating in the water, and of course I'm not losing that AND the crown key (quest item) I was near an island, and got a rowboat, collecting everything and tediously rowing until I found a port/merchant/hub I was able to save everything, and I luckily didn't have to get the quest item back after returning to my ship (it was still on the dock I left it at) and I'm now moving on.
I know this makes no sense, I'm just wondering how common it is to get ganked by a ship AND a megalodon? After the shark showed up I stood no chance.
Again, I do like this game. It's very fun, the navigation is cool and the depth of sailing is sometimes tedious, but very involved.
