Next best thing after known donor?

I have been reading through different forums about perceptions from donor conceived people. It seems from what I have read a known donor would be the preferred route. I am curious what the next best option would be? I am really struggling to identify a known donor, and the apps for finding known donors seem like they are as bad (or worse) than dating apps.
