Is the original switch still worth it?

Hi all, My son's 8th birthday is coming up. We have used our Wii U for several years. I was thinking of buying a switch as there were some good open box deals.

Is it still worth this with the switch 2 coming soon? We aren't huge gamers and funds aren't unlimited. We often borrow games from the library so I thought switch v1 is still worth it as there are plenty of games available there and in the used market.

Can't gauge if I'm experiencing FOMO fear so I'd appreciate any thoughts.
