When should I start job hunting

I start student teaching this spring semester and there’s a local school district I would love to be a part of. However, I’ve been told my multiple people it is very hard to even get an interview there. My father in law suggested I set up an informational meeting with the superintendent. Thoughts on that and when I should start applying? Thanks!
