I just realized “wasteland” is a song from both Ekko and jinx. This might be my new favorite song from arcane.

The lyrics of this song makes me picture a scenario,

“I’ve held on for long as a can, Please let me go and then Don’t let me go” it’s like jinx is describing her life as her holding onto something from falling to her death, when she lost hope she let go and but Ekko caught her hand and she’s hanging their pleading to him to him to let her go/die, He expresses himself to her “which unfortunately we didn’t see” and restored hope in her with her then saying “Don’t let me go” is her finding the will to live because of Ekko.

The song starts off hopeless as we see jinx burning everything as she’s consumed by despair. She’s ready to die, she accepts herself as jinx, she believes she can only bring misfortune to others. There is nothing to fight or protect. She just wanna rest from all the pain and suffering. 😔

She blames herself for being all alone, she thinks that she’s cause the doom and death of everyone around her, she did turn away Ekko and accident killed silco, but isha death has nothing to do with her and also she’s the one that choose to let VI go. She believe she can never changed and she never can be more than “jinx” as Milo and Vi called her.

“This world is a wasteland where nothing can grow” she believes she can’t grow or change. She pleads to Ekko to please let her go, let her die! Ekko has trapped in the time loop so she’s begging him to stop.

Ekko verse is merely 4 lines, which symbolizes his 4 seconds rewind and also his 4 attempts to save her. The lines are very short but beautiful and powerful.

“A wasteland where nothing can grow” remember that Ekko was inspired by that “tree” that managed to grow in the wasteland zaun. This makes Ekko the perfect person to prove jinx wrong about the world and show her that things can grow in the wasteland that is zaun, that she can grow. He’s the only one can save her.

He’s saying he’s not ready to see her die, “Im not ready to face it” he already proved this on the bridge when he couldn’t kill her. He’s asking her not to say goodbye, the AU changed him he don’t wanna give up on her ever again. “Their is beauty in changes, I wanna try” My perspective on this verse is that this is a romantic line here, The beauty in changes is him saying that he finally sees the “beauty” in jinx and he wants to try to build something with her.

Jinx responds by saying if ekko wasn’t there she’d be all alone, she then says in heart she knows this where we belong. She’s saying they belong “together” and I think this line also confirms that jinx always has hidden feelings for Ekko. Deep down she never stopped liking him and he neither.

I love the last verse “This world is a wasteland, Don’t let me go” it’s like jinx saying this world “zaun” is hell but I wanna live, I’ll live in it with you, As Ekko pulls up her and hopefully comforts/hugs her “in my mind he did that at least” copium❤️🥹.

That’s my perspective on the song.
