Should I email an apology to my Prof?

So, I’m a first year and I’ve finished an exam for a class. It was a handwritten essay, and it went terrible and I know it did. I feel so guilty cause my Prof helped me a bunch after bombing my last midterm and I know I should’ve done way better than I did but I just freaked out. Should I email an apology for how bad the essay was, or just let it go?
