Will I have Regrets?
Going to Iceland in mid-August of this year. Originally we were going to do the entire ring road. Spending 1 night in Akureyri and 1 night in Faskrudsfjordur. We would be coming from Snaefellsnes and going to Hofn, respectively. Due to vacation time and reservations these are only 2 days I can move around in trip.
As I started to add in travel time for sites I really wanted to see up there, it was getting crazy and I thought wow we’re going to be spending all day in the car. So I started eliminating activities. Kept Godafoss, Dettifoss, Mytvan(limited) but had to eliminate Studlagil and Dalvik whale watching which were both really high on list.
I then decided well maybe it makes more sense to keep most of itinerary the same except switch those 2 nights to Selfoss. Using 1 day to do Golden Circle, 1 day to hike Landmannalauger and a free day on last day to explore or activity (would have been golden circle).
This might be my only time to Iceland. So my question is, will I regret not doing the north and east and the waterfalls up there versus hiking Landmannalauger and spending more time in south? Drive time actually turned out to be pretty similar when keeping other reservations the same.
I know I’m the only one that can really decide but I would like feedback on if you would have regretted not going north/east even if you had to rush through it or is it better to have more time in the South exploring and hiking?
