How do you get wood? (Regular wood)

Hey guys, so I haven’t been playing too long. I’ve been chopping down tons of my island trees, and I go through so much regular wood in crafting. I have a decent amount of soft wood and hard wood, but the regular wood is harder to come by and at a certain point, I’ll cut all my trees down and have to plant more, so how do you guys rack up on regular wood? Visit other islands to chop? Can you buy it from anywhere? Additionally- how do I get the golden axe so my axe stops breaking!? TIA!
