Question for medical staff in here.

So....how busy is a real urban hospital ER in real life.

Seems like whenever I'm at the ER there is never much going on, even though I'm stuck there for hours.

For those who have worked a busy ER. How busy is it really? The show has multiple traumas comming in daily. Its that expected in real life in a place like Chicago? Yes I know it's only a TV show but I would still like to hear from some professionals on this.
