New releases Vs older releases

Recently I watched a booktuber try to read some of their illumicrate books that they hadn't gotten to yet, and they dnfd all of them. Which got me thinking about how these boxes have to pick a book that they hope will be popular, but (unless it was independently published first) they have no idea what readers will actually think of it

There are some boxes that focus on older/complete series like the broken binding, and they primarily go for books that have higher ratings and are fan favourites so they know they will be popular.

So what do you prefer? Do you like getting a new anticipated release? Or would you prefer if boxes picked older books people already love for their boxes?
