What the most depressing thought you have regarding this frag hobby?

(Disclaimer: this is mostly just romanticizing the sometimes irrational depressing thoughts I can have about anything I love… don’t take it too seriously. Lots to be grateful for. Anywho…)

For me, it’s the limitations of this hobby….

More specifically the fact that quintillions of potential fragrances, where 100,000 of them are signature worthy, will never exist. And we are severely limited by time, resources, inaccessibility to efficient diy perfuming, etc.

Another is that of the 100,000+ frags out there, any one person not enveloped in the real world perfumer community, will only be able to sample like 0.05 to 5% of all the frags out there. Of those, odds are we won’t ever find the most match worthy scent profile. Luckily the filter of popularity helps a bit to know of a safe bet signature-adjacent frag that’s close enough.

I just wish there was a scent encyclopedia where you can smell hundreds of different frags per day to really understand quickly which ones work, cause for now we have either a money black hole as an option or VERY unreliable second hand interpretations. Two frags can have the same notes, same ratings, and smell completely different.

Plenty more things to be depressed about like what if some of the greatest smelling aroma chemicals are never going to be used because they’re very hard to source, prohibitively dangerous or expensive. Etc.

I WANT MY FRAGRANCE SANDBOX REALITY GAME THAT I PLAY ON MY NEURALINK WHERE I CAN SAMPLE EVERY KNOWN CHEMICAL COMBINATION TENS OF THOUSANDS OF TIMES PER SECOND!! Lol
