Keep squirrels and birds from eating pears?
I have two pear trees next to my house. They’re well within jumping distance of squirrels, and are obviously accessible to birds.
Last year, I put mesh bags (like for produce) over each pear to try and protect them - it didn’t work, every single one got eaten by squirrels (naturally, the squirrels waited until they were almost ripe).
This year, I’d like to try something more effective, but I don’t know what that would be. Baffles around the trunk won’t work because the squirrels can just jump off of the roof or the bench. Any other ideas?
