Harry had Tom Riddle's diary for months. Why didn't Tom attempt to possess him instead of Ginny?
We know that Ginny told Tom Riddle's diary about Harry and what he did, and Tom Riddle was very interested in Harry. And yet, when Harry does come to possess the diary, Tom only shows him the memory of Hagrid being accused of opening the Chamber of Secrets. And then... nothing? For months, nothing happened. Harry didn't "talk" to the diary again, and Tom's diary made no attempt to coerce him.
One would think that Tom would be very interested in getting to know Harry, and ultimately take his revenge on Harry by draining Harry of his life force instead of Ginny (whom Tom found very boring and silly). Wouldn't that be the best way for Tom to find out how Harry had defeated his future self as a baby, and prove himself the superior wizard? Once he had drained Harry of his life story and his life force, it should have been Harry's body lying on the floor in the Chamber of Secrets.
I am quite sure that Tom could have been charming and mysterious enough to entice Harry to keep talking to him in the diary, as he did to Ginny. He could have told Harry all sorts of secrets, or made up secrets, to keep Harry interested. Maybe Harry wouldn't have been so gullible like Ginny, but the point is that Tom didn't even try to possess Harry and I'm wondering why. It would have made so much more sense than going back to Ginny.
