Returning player.

I just started playing again after probably 5 years. I made elemental mage and it's pretty fun. However I just played a game against a warrior I had 0 chance of winning. They finished the game with no health lost and around 45 armor. Is this a normal situation? How do I counter it? Any tips would be nice.
