Points 7 and 3 are wrong

DNB fees is constant all over India and same for every branch. It is 125,000 rs per year. It is on par with Govt hospitals and much less than private MD/MS
DNB residents are free to join as SR/asst prof/asso Prof/HoD same as MD/MS. Joining as SR is straightforward, and joining for higher posts needs 1 year experience as SR. DNB Post-Grads are even eligible to have MD/MS students under them.

2 is wrong, there's no standardisation in MD \nTraining varies wildly, there are some institutes who don't have certain modalities, for example many institutes don't have certain scopes, arthroscopic equipment, phaco, MRI etc. Pgs who paas out from these institutes have to learn this stuff on their own or through fellowships

Old school guys need time to adjust with DNB guys and teaching...... NMC r still draconian with clg infra and recognition for DNB.

\n\n

Felt DNB being flexible with the current trends as compared to pvt medical colleges, where even basic degraded clg teaching and high fees with donation ia a major factor.

What we need is more recognition for Fellowship programmes in India........ dire need as its highly unregulated.

Dont u think we need to shift seats from pvt clgs to big chain of hospitals where updated tech is available for purchase ?

There no point of opening new clgs and UG seats. Only thing is rqd as of now is to regulate the job market , field by field..... everyone shd get settled in long run. We dont need clgs, rather hospitals with updated tech and work for all.

OP, are you a DNB or a MD/MS resident? I\u2019m asking this because I\u2019ve observed most of the people who have an opinion regarding DNB are either UG students or people doing MD/MS in pvt medical colleges. It\u2019s become too easy for everyone to have an opinion regarding the other degree without really going through it. I think if anyone should have an opinion it should be about a particular degree/course that the person is going through/ has already gone through. To simply opine regarding another degree based on one\u2019s assumptions is not healthy I feel. And what I\u2019ve observed is once you really get a PG seat, you stop having opinions regarding others. You just want everyone to end the rat race and settle in somewhere because you\u2019ll know that at the end of the day no doctor\u2019s going to die hungry and it doesn\u2019t really matter what another person is doing.

You observation is correct, im post UG in prep phase.

These are just points I've got from speaking my PG resident friends in my college, I've not yet made a full opinion on DNB, I wanted to hear more insights and am willing to change my views.

Not really, it\u2019s fine as long as you put in the work that you need to put. I\u2019m doing a 6y course and I\u2019ve cleared my part 1 exams. I have my seniors who are running excellent practice right after degree. (Few of them in pvt practice, few of them in a medical college and all are doing fine). Getting into a course thinking that you are already doomed won\u2019t let your subconscious mind to accept whatever good the course has to provide. I feel DNB is far more standardised than MD/MS in most of the colleges in India. If you pass DNB, it\u2019s because you know your stuff, not because you bought laddoos for your HoD last Diwali.

Sorry,If I have offended you.But the fact that MS/MD can take DNB exam and have DNB degree seems unconstitutional and making DNB look like MRCS/MRCP.Also I think DNB person can\u2019t take MS/MD exams as they are conducted by many STATE UHS vs DNB conducted by (single) NBEMS.I know at the end of day your skill matter more than your degree.But If you want to setup your hospital at tier 3 city or rural areas then having DNB degree is a disadvantage because most people don\u2019t know any degree other than MD/MS

If you\u2019re planning to setup practice in a rural area then your degree shouldn\u2019t matter at all. From my experience people in the tier 3/rural areas assess doctors by their work and not their degree. It\u2019s the tier1/2 cities where the population of misinformed people are more. It\u2019s not their mistake that they are misinformed when the members of the medical community itself bring each other down to save their practice. Btw, are you 6y DNB student? If yes and you looking forward to complete the course with this kind of a psyche then I guess you are truly \u201cdoomed\u201d. It\u2019s something to think about, hope you do.

Ok Bhai,It\u2019s true that many Corporate hospitals are trying to hire DNB guys over MS/MD guys.Hope this continues and hope there would be no discrimination between MD and DNB.If already there is no discrimination,I will be the happiest person in the world.Thanks for the input on my Psyche

What world are you living in ? A lot of people from alternative medicine are making hell of a money in rural areas . People really don\u2019t care about your degree in rural areas . It is your commitment to the community and patient interaction that matters. A 10th class person ran OPD in Maharashtra for 3 yrs without even being noticed \ud83d\ude02

DNB candidate here . I chose DNB from a govt. College . I have excellent hands on experience . Great patient load . Need not worry about pleasing my professors as my degree and exams will come from DNB . Some of my seniors are doing Srship a from govt. hospitals. \nFees of MD/ MS in my college is 50,000 Rs. Higher than the DNB fees . \nOne of my colleagues got top AIR and chose to do DNB from gangaram . \nThere is hardly any difference between the two . For surgical branches , you should always choose a hospital with more hands on training . Private vs govt Or MS / DNB doesn\u2019t matter .

If DNB is provided by Government Institution like Railways or Medical Colleges then there will be reservation,If it\u2019s provided by private Institution then there won\u2019t be any Reservation

So the following points are confirmed:

Officially on paper, \nNBEMS's DNB is equivalent to Degree[MD/MS]

\n\n

Key differences being:\n1) DNB is mostly in private/corporate hospitals with few government colleges themselves offering DNB.

\n\n

2)Unlike the standardised format of Degree education, the DNB training depends more on the institute and faculty.

\n\n

3)Obviously higher fees than some colleges.

\n\n

4)More hands-on training and exposure to middle class and rich patients.

\n\n

5)Low passout rate due to difficult exams[but depends on discipline and hospital]

\n\n

6)DNB doctors are eligible to answer NEET SS for Mch/DM courses as well as DrNB courses.

\n\n

7)Not possible to get SR posts or enter into academia with only DNB qualification.

\n\n

8)Degree holders can answer DNB exit exam and get the qualification but vice versa isn't true.

\n\n

Some questions:\nWhy is there discrimination in jobs then against DNB candidates?\nDo Degree holders look down upon their DNB colleagues at the workplace?\nIs there any lack of skill or knowledge compared to their Degree counterparts?\nDo patients look at DNB/Degree qualification and choose their doctors?

Please share you insights about the points ive mentioned and if possible do offer some advice/anecdotes from your experiences....everyone's welcome to post.
