Aespa Sydney Concert - Different strokes for different folks
I'm a casual fan of Aespa and generally a big fan of attending concerts both kpop and non-kpop. There's a hot post at the moment regarding their Sydney concert. I attended Day 2. I honestly gotta say I am absolutely shocked at the post and comments. Truly, different people want different things! My friend (also a casual fan) and I had an absolute blast!! We came out huge fans of Aespa.
The absolute stand out factor to us was how well planned and executed the whole concert is. The whole package - visuals of the stage, camera team, costumes, VCRs, the girls themselves, their live vocals, their lip sync, their choreo, their dancing and backup dancers - all done to perfection!
I found the stage and VCRs were complementary to their performance, honestly at most other concerts it's either an afterthought or a distraction. The camera team were so good, again usually I find the camera work a complete distraction but this time they got all the right members at the right time. I actually thought the visual experience of the concert was top amongst all concerts I have ever been to - I figured that for other concerts it's somewhat of an afterthought because maybe you design the concert for the home country stadium and by the time it gets to Qudos Bank Arena in Australia, elements you designed don't fit the stage or whatever so you gotta drop them or modify them. Aespa got it right though, really the first time I've truly been in awe at concert aesthetics.
I actually loved that there were fewer ments because it meant more songs and performances. They've got a decent sized discography - really felt like they were cramming in as much as they could! I totally understand fewer ments might be a disappointment to fans but personally I'm here for the performances and aespa delivered!
Their live vocals were obviously very good! The lip sync was expected but at least they were overall good at lip synching too.
To me, their choreo and dancing stood out. I've attended other shows where some members really stand out above the rest or others are definitely not as strong dancers but I'd say aespa are all great dancers. They also had stamina - after all they performed so many more songs in a row than some other gg shows I have been to. I'm actually so inspired I'm gonna be doing my own dance practices (at home, alone LOL).
In summary, it was a well practiced and executed show. Some of the criticisms other people had were some of my favourite parts of the concert LOL. 10/10, I would definitely attend Aespa again.
