Tiling options for Linux noob

Hey! I'm currently on my 2 week using LMDE + i3 and I'm just feeling like it's not working too well. Can you guys give me some tiling options?

It's my first time using Linux, I have a Thinkpad t480, and I'm not through all of i3 documentation yet so there's still improvement to be made, but I just feel like stuff aren't clicking too well for me. I still can't get something to stop screensaver while watching videos or listening to music, for example. I just wanted to see what's out there.
