Malaysia Airlines Checked Baggage

I am travelling and plan to use a single lugggage for 40kg baggage allowance. On the MAS website, it says the maximum weight for a checked baggage on economy is 23kg, which I feel is kind of low. I have travelled with heavier bags on Airasia. Can anyone advise on this? TIA!
