Why are people so weird about Spider-Man?

From insta-lockers, to full on haters, I've noticed folks are really weird about the webslinger. In the right hands he can be a menace, but for most players he isn't viable. I've put in the work, but God help you if you underperform because you will be lit up.

I've been bullied for just picking the character. Had a game where my team was getting completely stomped, and for some reason the enemy Star Lord needed to call me (the SVP) out because "Spider-Man is such a loser character".

Have you noticed anyone else getting such strong reactions?

I'm sure it's just because of his popularity, but still.
