Do you think Diane Warren and Thomas Newman will ever win an Academy Award?

I was flipping through my Spotify and a track from Thomas Newman's score for Wall-E popped up and it got me thinking about something.

Thomas Newman is currently the most nominated composer in Oscar history without a single win to his name. To the point where back in 2007 he was making jokes about how he's never won. The man has 15 Oscar nominations to his name (14 in Best Original Score and 1 in Best Original Song) and despite having Grammys, an Emmy, and 2 BAFTAS, he has no Oscar.

On the other end, you have Diane Warren who has 16 Best Original Song Oscar nominations but has never won. Making her and Thomas the biggest losers of the two music categories. Funnily enough, they both inherited those records from Randy Newman (yes there is relation). Randy was the biggest loser in song until he finally won for Monsters Inc and while he never won an Oscar for a score, Thomas passed his number of nominations a long time ago.

I often think about whether or not Diane Warren and Thomas Newman will ever actually win Oscars. There is the meme of how the Academy will always nominate Diane for some random song for a movie almost nobody saw and still loses. Imo her last worthy nomination was Grateful from Beyond the Lights (a movie more people should see). Thomas Newman doesn't work as often as he used to but when he comes out he comes out hard. His score for Elemental was pretty fabulous and hope his score for The Thursday Murder Club kicks ass. There are years I felt Thomas was the rightful winner (American Beauty, Wall-E, and Saving Mr. Banks come to mind) but I think he has a few more masterpiece scores in him.

The question is whether or not he or Diane will ever walk the Oscar stage. Or in the case of Diane, win an actual competitive Oscar. Maybe if they worked on the same movie they could both win. Lol
