Should I upgrade my (admittedly terrible) laptop for RIT? [Incoming this Fall]
I recently got into RIT Early Action for Human-Centered Computing.
My current laptop is a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 (2014). [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surface_Pro_3]
It has 4GB of RAM, an Intel Core i3-4020Y CPU, 64GB of storage.
Although, I do have a USB with 64GB more.
The typical student definitely has a much better laptop than this. But, this can do typical college tasks like note-taking. Docs, Sheets, Slides, Blender, Adobe Products. Definitely coding too, and I doubt I'll be running super-advanced projects that would lag this with my major.
I've been using to for this year of high school and it's been able to do everything I've needed.
Pros: Very small, so easily portable. It can also be used as a tablet with the touch screen and detachable keyboard.
Cons: VERY Lacking specs. Keyboard sometimes buggy.
I feel like a new laptop would be a lot of money, but would it be worth it? If so, do you have any recommendations that aren't extremely costly? Let me know what you think.
