TIL: Not to use (some?) third-party ticket sellers. Is it a common practice?

Not sure how I should react but this feels like a total scam to me right now: my ticket was cancelled by the airline few days before the flight, which, of course, messed up my plans a little + I had to buy a more expensive tickets for a later date. The cherry on top was this interaction with the ticket provider which deducted the fee of ~$45 for "processing and handling of the booking".

In the end I'm sitting here with -$45 and zero services provided. Is this a common practice at third party ticket sellers?
