vocals contribute most to a groups success and longevity
just my opinion, feel free to disagree and/or explain just conversations not arguments. i do not mean hate to any group mentioned !!!
there was this opinion on tiktok i saw that was like this group has the potential to be one of the big 3, ie rv, twice, blackpink, bts, svt, nct.
tw might be controversial, i would leave out groups but it’s just easier this way
i was seeing a lot of people say stray kids and i just couldn’t see it. out of all the potential girl and boy groups it really boiled down, for me, to itzy or aespa. i’ll admit i’m not that well versed in boy groups but i know ggs are doing amazing right now.
now why i think vocals matter is because look at the other biggest/legendary groups of all time, shinee, girls generation, exo, bts, twice, rv, 2ne1, nct, svt, so much more. all these groups have a well developed vocal line and having this well developed vocal line opens there discography so much more than other groups.
this might also be unpopular but i think being a good rapper is easier than being a good vocalist, which means that the niche that itzy targets is more saturated. for example “step back” can arguably be in a similar style of what itzy and groups like iz one and girl crush concepts alike, but only GOT could pull it off.
of course itzy or stray kids or any other idol group don’t have bad vocals but groups with stronger more developed vocal lines will make not better but more memorable music. itzy stages are captivating truly, and chaeryong don’t get me started easily one of my favorite performers to watch, but i don’t listen to their music as much as i do aespa or twice for example. their music is more performance slanted rather than listening music (u know what i mean, ik someone’s gonna try and twist this). kpop as a genre is dynamic though as wits not just known for its music but also it’s aesthetics, concepts, and performances, which is why i am sure there is room for debate, but this is just a trend i noticed.
when i think of exceptions to this i think of BIGBANG and 2NE1, although i’m not sure how popular i think 2ne1 has an amazing vocal line but if anybody else knows groups who are more rap or performance based than vocals please feel free to bring it up.
i think this is unpopular cuz in the thread it was definitely unpopular but reddits a whole different community so i’m interested to see.
i am always open to different opinions/changing my own opinion so please don’t get too heated.
