What are these really small houses that I sometimes see in Vienna?

I would have taken a picture but I don't want to disrespect someone's privacy. But all over Vienna I see suburbs where there are thes tiny houses with cute little gardens. Surely there is some history behind these houses or maybe they have a specific purpose? I've only ever seen this in Vienna, it's quite interesting.
