DUMB QUESTION: Is it feasible in lore to mix two parts of a Dreadnaught pattern for a new variant and circumvent the "invention" angle with something like "Oh we had parts laying around from a Leviathan and had to do it for our battle-brother to survive" or is even that stretching it?

I tried pane lining with a sharpie on an older kit. It didn’t panel line good and it made a big mess but it looks like a cool weathering effect in my opinion. What do you think?
